Redemption Leadership

Leadership in the church is more about humble service than about executive function.  Leaders have roles and functions too, but the overwhelming description of leaders in the Bible are is character-related and setting an example for the church to follow.

  • Pastors (or elders) in the Bible are charged to spiritually nurture the church, structurally oversee its function, and teach sound doctrine.
  • Directors at Redemption function like deacons in the Bible in that their service facilitates the ministry of the Word, and they create a space that fosters a culture for spiritual growth.

So leaders start with character, they walk in humility, they build and serve the church, and they set an example for others to follow. No leader is perfect in morality, but should be growing in spiritual fruit and decreasing in worldly sin on a godly trajectory.

Biblical references: Ephesians 4:11-13, 1 Timothy 3:1-13; 5:17-22, 1 Peter 5:1-5, Acts 20:28-31, Galatians 6:1-6

For a deeper dive on church leadership, these two small books are a great place to start:

If you have questions about leadership, please talk to one of the pastors or directors listed below.

If you desire to be assessed and considered for eldership, email any pastor with a request to meet up, pray and talk more after you’ve completed reading both books above. There are a few simple questions we will send to you once we get your email.

As part of the Acts 29 church planting network, Redemption Church began in the Stinson's living room in 2010, and has continued to grow over the years, now gathering at the Dowd YMCA in Uptown Charlotte.
